About Euterpe Opera Theatre

Euterpe Opera Theatre, founded in 1924, and with over 300 opera productions to date, is now producing chamber opera. Our most recent production was of two comic operas, Mozart's Impresario and Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona, performed Jan. 8, 1995, at Van Nuys High School Auditorium. In Summer, 1993, Euterpe produced Mozart's Zaïde at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater as part of the Summer Nights At The Ford Festival. The previous year (1992), Euterpe Opera produced Haydn's delightful Infidelity Foiled. Almost all Euterpe Opera productions are dramatically staged and sung in English -- recently, some have been in Spanish as well.

Euterpe Opera produced the first opera performed on the stage of the new Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in 1964. Since that date, Euterpe has presented over 100 operas at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Over the years many singers have benefited from the experience of taking part in Euterpe productions early in their career. Euterpe alumnae and alumni include: Nadine Conner, Jerome Hines, Mary Costa, Jonathan Mack, Karen Armstrong, Carole Neblett, Heinz Bankenburg, and Marvelee Cariaga.
